In Loving Memory of....

Ok, this is so morbid! To the Max!
I've seen them here before, but sorta forgot until today when I had Dyllan with me.
He rushed over and said, "Ooh Momma! Pretty flowers! Take my picture!"
Instead of creating a scene by saying no, I took a few shots thinking that this might very well be "Blog" worthy.

tell me, are you just as creeped out as I am? My skin is crawling! Thank god the Scrapbook section is on the opposite side of this display.

The ones below are meant to stick in the ground.

~ In case you are wondering where this is...it's at Michaels craft store.
Right up front as you walk through the door.

Now on to a happy note...congratulation to the the previous post winner for some flowers!
Susan of Red Bess Bonney!

I know they want to sell, but with this they could be more discret.

Oh I so know what you mean. . . It is a culture thing I was so taken back the first time I saw some of the things that people take to love ones graves out here. I guess it brings money into M's but I don't want to see them they make me sad. . . I have always taken real flowers to those I want to remember just have never like the fake ones!

hey michelle, just had to comment and tell you that the toy kit that your son is holding in the picture is what my son gets every time he goes to Michaels with me. Too funny!!! SHaron

I think it's a sign of our economy. They are selling to people who can't afford professional flowers. Death and things surrounding it don't creep me out, just a part of life. I can imagine it's tough to explain to little ones though.

Death is a fact of life, but I don't feel a craft store is the place for this, especially as you go in the door. It's all about money and different cultures. I alway take live plants to the cemetery. You would be surprised how many of these I see going out the door. They litter the sides of our roads at religious shrines where someone has died. The local cemeteries are full of them.

Kinda weird... I don't understand why Micheals feels it has to sell this.

Well I guess it's just creepy cause no one wants to think about it.
I nover thought of it being a 'craft'. But I'm sure it is.
They could make a tactful display near the back or something.

You know what's really morbid...
Going to shop for your own coffin and burial spot!
My next door neighbour did so last summer and has since passed!
She came back from the cemetery, with a pretty good attitude (God Love her) saying she just purchased her new "condo"...
I miss her already! :o(

Down here in New Zealand they are very large, the Pacific Islanders in particular cover their family graves with them, and they carry them during the funeral procession, have them lined up around the coffins in their churches for services. But we dont sell them in stores like what Michaels and that are....instead they are either in shops where you can buy the headstones or funeral homes have them and in areas where the PI commuity is large they have shops that sell them along with their large lace blanket things they put over the graves...alot of work goes into their things for their passed loved ones.
